Tableau works best with long, tidy tables. The state population, world population and earthquake files have geography for maps; the sales orders file has region, state and city plus sales and profit, the same shape as the classic Superstore sample.
Connect > Microsoft Excel or Text file. State codes, country ISO3 codes and latitude/longitude columns are recognised as geography.
